A Truly Transformative Procedure

A neck lift is an excellent option for individuals who have sagging skin due to the aging process or significant weight loss. It can also address a double chin and excess soft tissue.

A neck lift can be a truly transformative procedure, restoring definition and attractiveness to the jawline and neck and enhancing overall facial appearance.

What is a Neck Lift?

When it comes to addressing signs of aging, any treatment plan that fails to address the neck is incomplete. Neck lift surgery is often carried out in tandem with a facelift in order to provide more extensive and durable results that restore vitality to the face, giving the patient a boost in self-confidence.

The surgery can treat issues such as drooping skin, a “turkey wattle”, vertical neck lines, lack of definition in the jawline, and fat accumulation in the neck. If needed, liposuction can be incorporated into a neck lift procedure to redefine the area, giving it new contours. Platysmaplasty works by toning up the neck muscles, while cervicoplasty is able to remove unwanted skin folds.

Neck Lift Surgery Details

The neck lift procedure removes sagging skin of the neck and excess fat under the chin, while overall tightening and toning the neck. It may be also be performed to smooth out the bands that can form in the front of the neck. While a neck lift is frequently performed in conjunction with a facelift, it doesn’t have to be. It can be done as a stand-alone procedure, or it can be combined with other procedures such as an eyelid lift, a brow lift, fat transfer, etc.

Dr. Frankel performs a neck lift in Cleveland with the patient under either deep twilight anesthesia or local anesthesia with oral sedation. He will create incisions beneath the chin and/or behind the ears. The platysma muscle will be tightened and sewn together, excess skin and fat will be removed, tissue and skin will be adjusted and secured, and then the incisions will be closed. Surgical dressings will then be placed. The surgery takes about two hours, and most patients go home the same day.

Who is a Candidate for a Neck Lift?

If you’re considering a neck lift in Cleveland, Mayfield Heights, or Beachwood, Dr. Frankel’s neck lift may be the ideal procedure for your needs. Those who are good patients for a neck lift are those who:

  • Have neck skin that looks crepey or creased
  • Feel that their neck is making them look older or heavier than they are
  • Are non-smokers in overall good health
  • Have realistic expectations for what a neck lift can do
  • Understand the procedure, risks, and recovery process
  • Have enough time for a proper recovery period

Deep Neck Lift

As the name implies, what defines a deep neck lift is the manipulation of the deeper structures of the neck. It is ideal for patients that have good skin elasticity.  Patients who have fullness of the deeper structures, a deep neck lift can allow for more dramatic results.

The deep neck lift addresses other tissue layers such as deeper fat pads, prominent musculature, and occasionally prominent saliva glands.  It also involves tightening of the platysma to give a smooth, tightened contour.

This procedure starts with a small incision made under the chin. The planes are then raised above and below the platysma muscle, and fat is extracted from both layers. The muscle is then banded tightly at the midline, providing a more defined neckline. This treatment goes well with buccal fat extraction, and facial fat grafting for enhanced results.

Submental liposuction, CoolSculpting, and Kybella only address neck fullness from subcutaneous fat.

What a Neck Lift Can Do

  • Restore definition to the neck, chin, and jawline
  • Tighten sagging neck skin
  • Reduce wrinkles of the neck
  • Decrease a double chin
  • Boost self-esteem and confidence

Recovery and Results

A neck lift requires about 1-2 weeks of recovery, with residual swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort that gradually improves after the first 3-4 days. After your neck lift, the area will need to be supported by a light compression garment for about one week.

Although early results will be visible immediately after a neck lift, final results will be seen at about six months. The scars will be nearly imperceptible in one year. With good post-procedure care and a strong skincare regimen, neck lift results can last up to 10 years or more. Dr. Frankel is known to offer one of the best neck lifts in Cleveland and will help ensure the best results.
