Dr. Frankel performs chin implant surgery as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The incision is placed just under the chin. After the incision is made, Dr. Frankel will insert and secure the chin implant, placing it around your natural chin bone. He will then close the incision and dress the area. Chin augmentation in Cleveland takes approximately one hour unless other procedures are being done along with the chin implant, such as rhinoplasty.

Recovery and Results

After your chin implant surgery, you will need about one week of recovery time to allow swelling and bruising to subside. Most patients have soreness, pressure, discomfort when chewing, and/or a tight feeling in the area during this time. For some patients, soft or liquid foods may be recommended. You can wash your face two days after your procedure, but be very mindful of your incisions.

You may brush your teeth immediately, but also be very careful when doing this. We recommend sleeping with your head elevated during recovery to help with swelling and protecting your incision. Refrain from making big, excessive facial movements for 1-2 weeks, and avoid putting any kind of pressure on the treated area for six weeks. You’ll need to stop exercise and strenuous activities for three weeks, or until our staff advises you otherwise.

As soon as swelling subsides, you’ll notice your improvements. It will take about 3-6 months for results to be completely finalized, but most of the final result will be visible at three months. Results with a chin implant are permanent.
