What is a Revision Facelift?

A “revision facelift” refers to any facelift that’s done after the first one. When an individual has already had a facelift done, it adds additional factors to consider, such as scar tissue and overly-stretched skin. This is why it’s of the utmost importance to only work with a plastic surgeon who specializes in facelift surgery when choosing a revision facelift. Dr. Frankel has been trusted by many to help attain the best results for revision facelifts in Cleveland.

Who is a Good Candidate?

  • Wants to correct or improve the outcome from their previous facelift
  • Would like a touch-up because their last facelift was 10 years ago or longer
  • Had their last facelift at least one year ago
  • Are non-smokers in general good health
  • Have realistic expectations about what a revision facelift can accomplish

Common Reasons to Get a Revision Facelift

  • A patient’s previous facelift was performed 10 years ago or more
  • The patient is not pleased with the results of the previous facelift
  • The patient is bothered by visible scars from the previous facelift
  • The previous facelift was done using an outdated or improper technique
  • The results from the previous facelift do not look natural
  • The previous facelift resulted in issues with the mouth, ears, or hairline
  • The previous facelift resulted in issues with the skin (puckering, creasing, etc.)
  • The previous facelift resulted in asymmetry

How is a Revision

Facelift Done?

Dr. Frankel performs a revision facelift in Mayfield Heights with the patient under monitored anesthesia care/twilight sedation. Most of the time, he will use the incisions that were created during the original facelift procedure; however, this isn’t possible for every patient.

It will depend on how the scars healed the first time. Dr. Frankel will carefully address the problems or mistakes from the previous facelift, working around or improving issues such as scar tissue, tightly-pulled skin, and any scarring that has healed badly.

Once he has completed, he will close the incisions and place surgical dressings. A revision facelift takes 3-5 hours.

What to Expect in Recovery

Patients should expect about two weeks of recovery time after a revision facelift. During this time, you may have swelling, soreness, and mild pain. The worst of the swelling occurs within 24-48 hours, and may take a few weeks to subside due to the adjustment of the scar tissue. Keeping your head elevated, even during sleep, will help with the swelling. Sutures are typically removed one week following surgery.
