A Life-Changing Procedure

Dr. Frankel performs functional rhinoplasty to address nasal breathing problems, such as a deviated septum or narrowing of the nasal valve. Oftentimes, a combination of cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty is performed at the same time to correct both appearance and function.

Functional rhinoplasty involves working with complex nasal structures and therefore demands only the most experienced and skilled surgeon, such as Dr. Frankel. Once functional rhinoplasty is completed and the patient is healed, he or she may likely find it easier to breathe, sleep, and exercise.

What Does Functional Rhinoplasty Address?

  • Breathing issues
  • Problems with snoring
  • Excessive congestion
  • Loss of sense of smell
  • Dry mouth
  • Frequent nosebleeds
  • Sleep-disordered breathing (sleep apnea)

Septoplasty

The septum is the wall that divides both sides of your nose and is composed of thin bone and cartilage. When the septum is out of alignment, it’s known as a “deviated septum” and can create many issues including nasal obstruction, snoring, nasal discomfort, loss of sense of smell, sleep-disordered breathing, and more. Dr. Frankel can perform a septoplasty to re-position, trim, or replace the bone and cartilage.

Surgery for Nasal Valve Collapse

Nasal valve collapse occurs due to weak or malformed nasal cartilage, scar tissue, trauma, inflammation, problems after nasal surgery, or the aging process. It is characterized by symptoms such as severe snoring, chronic congestion, bleeding, and trouble breathing. Dr. Frankel performs a variety of procedures tailored specifically for each patient’s anatomy to support and open the nasal valves. This results in an improved nasal airway.

Inferior Turbinate Reduction

Turbinates are tiny structures within the nose that channel and humidify the air before it goes into our lungs. These turbinates can sometimes become enlarged, which can cause issues with breathing. During an inferior turbinate reduction, Dr. Frankel will decrease the obstruction caused by enlarged turbinates, resulting in improved nasal airflow.
