Why is it Called “Mini”?

It’s known as a “mini” facelift because it only pulls the skin very slightly. Our mini facelift in Cleveland is a great option for individuals with mild deep tissue sagging, and results in a much more refreshed and youthful appearance.

Performed mostly to address signs of aging the lower half of the face, the mini facelift reduces wrinkles and sagging skin, defines the jawline, and refreshes the overall appearance of the face. A mini facelift does not address the neck.

Key Benefits of a Mini Facelift

  • Incisions are more easily hidden because they are shorter
  • Less swelling and bruising
  • Less recovery time required
  • Local anesthesia is used instead of general anesthesia
  • Quicker healing time with less swelling and bruising
  • Less expensive than a full facelift
  • Rejuvenation that is subtle and natural-looking

Ideal Candidates for a Mini Facelift

  • Don’t yet need a full facelift
  • Are in their 40s and 50s
  • Skin still has good elasticity
  • Have mild to moderate sagging skin
  • Have mild to moderate jowling
  • Have deep nasolabial folds
  • Want subtle, natural-looking improvement

Mini Facelift vs. Deep Plane

When considering facial rejuvenation, two popular options are the mini facelift and the deep plane facelift, each offering distinct benefits based on individual goals and anatomy. However, for patients seeking a comprehensive, long-lasting solution, the deep plane facelift stands out as the preferred choice.

A mini facelift is a less invasive procedure designed to address mild to moderate sagging in the lower face, including early signs of jowls and skin laxity. It involves shorter incisions, typically around the ears, and focuses on tightening the skin and the superficial layers of facial tissue. While this procedure offers a quicker recovery time and subtle improvements, its effects are generally limited to the lower face and do not significantly address deeper facial structures or more advanced signs of aging.

In contrast, a deep plane facelift provides a transformative, natural-looking lift by repositioning the deeper layers of facial tissue, including the SMAS and fat pads. This advanced technique corrects sagging in the mid-face, lower face, and neck, restoring youthful contours and volume while addressing areas like nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Although it is a more intricate procedure with a slightly longer recovery period, the results are unparalleled in their longevity, often lasting 10-15 years.

Some patients find a mini facelift appropriate, but most see the benefit of a deep plane facelift, which achieves more natural, long-lasting results without additional downtime. By targeting the root causes of facial aging rather than just surface-level concerns, the deep plane facelift ensures a rejuvenation that looks effortless and stands the test of time. Surgery Details

Dr. Frankel performs the mini facelift with the patient under local anesthesia with sedation.

He will create an incision at the temporal hairline which will reach to the front of the ear and then make its way around the earlobe, in the crease behind the ear. This incision is shorter than in a full facelift, which results in shorter recovery time and also less visibility once healing is complete. Procedure time is 1.5-3 hours.

Recovery and Results

Because of the shorter incisions and the local anesthesia, a mini facelift requires less recovery time than a full facelift. The majority of patients are able to return to their regular life (except for strenuous exercise) within a week. More intense exercise can be resumed in two weeks. Swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort are to be expected during recovery, but can be managed with over-the-counter medication. You will notice early results in the first 2-3 weeks, with long-term results improving more and more over the months. Results can last 7-10 years. If you're considering a mini facelift in Mayfield Heights, Beachwood, or Cleveland, Dr. Frankel is a great option for you.
